Space and Environment

For good focus, it is important to have a peaceful work environment. You don’t want too many distractions. Make sure your space is quiet. If during your working hours your family and children are home, find yourself your own peaceful corner.

Moreover, designate some space for working purposes. If you don’t have the possibility of getting an in-house office or a separate desk, use a corner of your dining table as a professional space. The point is not to work from bed or sofa as it will create an imbalance. A bed is for sleeping, a sofa for relaxing, desk for working, etc.

The mentioned peaceful environment doesn’t only refer to noise but also to physical clutter. Make your working space tidy. The more stuff is on your desk, the more reasons and items for distraction. Clean table equals clear thinking. Perhaps try minimalism and keep only the essentials.

Time and Schedule

One of the benefits of working from home is the possibility of choosing your own working hours. However, try to set yourself standard working hours every day. Instead of working one day from noon to 8 pm, next day throughout the night and the third day from 10 am to 3 pm, try 9 am – 5 pm or whatever other fixed hours work for you.

Having a sleeping rhythm and work schedule is not only healthy, it also increases your productivity. Moreover, don’t plan your work hours by what you need to get done and then call it a day. Let’s say you need to send 200 emails. If you send them within 4 hours, you will still have time to do additional tasks and you will end up accomplishing more within a day.

On the other hand, if you do not send them all within one working day, it means that it might be a time to rest. Keep your daily dose of work healthy. Overworking may increase short-term productivity and output but it will show negative effects in the long term.
